Giving Free policy

Community Guidelines

The standards donors and receivers must follow on Giving Free.

Last updated: July 8, 2026

Core principles

  • Keep it free. No sales, swaps, deposits, delivery fees, or hidden charges.
  • Keep it legal. Only post items you are allowed to give away in Ghana.
  • Keep it safe. Do not post unsafe, recalled, expired, dangerous, or prohibited items.
  • Keep it respectful. Communicate clearly, arrive on time, and treat other users with dignity.
  • Keep it local. Use public pickup areas and arrange safe handoffs directly.

For donors

  • Post accurate photos and descriptions.
  • Disclose damage, missing parts, hygiene concerns, expiry dates, or safety concerns.
  • Choose one receiver fairly and mark the item unavailable when it is no longer available.
  • Do not collect payment or request compensation in any form.

For receivers

  • Only request items you can collect.
  • Do not send repeated or aggressive messages.
  • Do not resell items in a way that misleads donors or violates any stated conditions.
  • Inspect items before accepting them.

Safety expectations

  • Meet in public or low-risk locations when possible.
  • Avoid sharing exact home addresses until necessary and only with a trusted receiver.
  • Bring another adult for pickups where appropriate.
  • Cancel pickup if anything feels unsafe or suspicious.
  • Report suspicious listings, users, or messages to support@givingfree.org.
